Celebrating Juneteenth: Events and Activities with Debra Gardner
Juneteenth is a significant day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. This year, I had the honor of joining President and Dr. Biden at the White House for a Juneteenth Concert on the White House Lawn. It was a joyous occasion celebrating with my fellow colleagues of the House of Delegates.
Juneteenth Events in Chesterfield
Chesterfield is celebrating Juneteenth with a series of activities and events throughout the county this month. A full slate of activities and programming can be found on the county's Juneteenth page.
Annual Juneteenth Celebration
To cap off the county's month-long Juneteenth celebration, residents and visitors are invited to attend the second annual Chesterfield Juneteenth Celebration Pop Up Night Vendor Market. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, at the Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education, located at 11810 Centre St. in Chester.
Community Leaders’ Breakfast
I also attended the Fourth Annual Chesterfield Juneteenth Community Leaders’ Breakfast. There was an excellent program with music and an inspiring reflection from Harriet Tubman on her slavery and freedom, shared by storyteller Charmaine Crowell-White. This event was a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the African American community and the importance of Juneteenth in our history.
Stay Engaged
Juneteenth is a time for reflection, education, and celebration. I encourage everyone to participate in the events and activities throughout Chesterfield to learn more about the significance of this day and to honor the rich cultural heritage it represents.
