Advocating for Reproductive Rights and Supporting Military Families
Debra Gardner continues her commitment to advocacy and support within our community. This past month has been particularly significant with events and legislative efforts aimed at protecting reproductive rights and supporting military families in Virginia.
Planned Parenthood Community Action Launch Party
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia recently hosted a Richmond Area Community Action Team Launch Party on the eve of the anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. It was an honor to speak at this event and support their goal of advocating for a constitutional amendment to protect reproductive freedom here in Virginia. The dedication and enthusiasm of everyone involved were truly inspiring, and I am proud to stand alongside these advocates in the fight for reproductive rights.
June 28 House of Delegates Special Session
On Friday, June 28, the Virginia House of Delegates held a Special Session to address crucial legislation. One of the primary focuses was repealing the changes made to the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependents Education Program (VMSDEP) in the budget. As a Co-Patron to HB 6003, I am proud to announce that the House of Delegates unanimously passed this full, clean repeal and reversal of the eligibility changes to VMSDEP. This program is vital for supporting the families of our military personnel, and this legislative victory ensures they continue to receive the benefits they deserve. We now await the work of the Governor’s task force on this important issue.
Stay Engaged and Informed
As we move forward, it is crucial to stay engaged and informed about these important issues. Advocacy and legislative efforts require the support and involvement of the community to make a lasting impact. I encourage you to participate in local events, stay updated on legislative developments, and continue to advocate for the rights and support systems that matter to us all.
