March 29

March 29

May 01, 20257 min read

As March comes to a close, we've seen attacks on DEI, federal workers, and now Medicaid. House Democrats are fighting for affordable healthcare, strong public schools, and an economy that works for everyone. In contrast, Republicans aren’t just following Trump’s lead they're actively dismantling programs that working families depend on. Medicaid cuts threaten home care services, nursing home funding, and disability support, pushing our most vulnerable Virginians into crisis. Medicaid covers nearly half of all births in Virginia, and cuts would limit access to prenatal, childbirth, and postpartum care—putting moms and babies at risk.

In response to reckless budget cuts, Virginia House Democrats launched the Emergency Committee on the Impacts of Federal Workforce and Funding Reductions. This committee will study the effects of federal cutbacks, assess risks to jobs and services, and develop policy solutions to mitigate the damage.

With your voices, passion, and resilience, we will continue moving Virginia forward—toward a future that is just, equitable, and full of opportunity for all.

Sixth Annual Ramadan Iftar Dinner in RVA

Ramadan is a time of fasting, reflection, and community for Muslims around the world, and the Iftar dinner marks the breaking of the fast each evening. The Sixth Annual Ramadan Iftar potluck dinner for the RVA community was a truly meaningful gathering. It’s always inspiring to see interfaith leaders, community members, and government representatives come together in unity. In a time when so much negativity surrounds us, events like this remind us of the importance of kindness and coming together as one. A heartfelt thank you to Bon Air United Methodist Church, Islamic Center of Virginia, and the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities for hosting such a wonderful event!

Engaging with the Liberal Women of Chesterfield on 2025's Legislative Priorities

The Liberal Women of Chesterfield County (LWCC) is a group of like-minded individuals coming together with a shared commitment to creating legislative change in Chesterfield County and beyond. Their dedication to advocating for progressive values is inspiring, and their collective efforts are making a real impact. I was grateful for the opportunity to speak at their weekly meeting, where I had the chance to discuss my legislative priorities for the 2025 General Assembly. The conversation was thoughtful and engaging, and I truly appreciated the feedback and support from those in attendance. When groups like this come together to advocate for positive change, As a member of this group I am filled with hope that by working together, we can create a brighter future for Chesterfield County and beyond.

Supporting Seniors through Meals on Wheels

During Nationwide Community Champions Week, I had the privilege of serving my senior constituents through FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels program. This program delivers fresh, nutritious meals directly to vulnerable individuals in Central Virginia. The week also honors the historic amendment to the Older Americans Act in March 1972, which established a nutrition program for those 60 and older. It’s a crucial time for the Meals on Wheels network as we work towards ending the wait for older Americans in need.

Updates from the 2025 General Assembly

I had the opportunity to speak to the Chesterfield County Democratic Committee (CCDC). It was a great opportunity to share updates from the 2025 General Assembly and discuss how House Democrats are Unleashing Virginia’s Potential. Our focus this session is on creating a Family-First Economy, providing World-Class Education, and building Strong Communities.

Families across Virginia are feeling the pressure of rising costs, so we’re working on real solutions—like reducing housing prices, lowering tuition, expanding childcare options, and putting more money back into Virginians' pockets.

I reiterated to the group that we must continue to stand strong and Resist. Together we can keep moving Virginia forward!

Thank You for Attending Our First Town Hall Event!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined Community Conversations: A Town Hall, co-hosted by First Baptist Church of South Richmond on February 15th! The energy, engagement, and thoughtful discussions made the event a real success. It was incredible to connect with so many community members and hear different perspectives.

The conversations were insightful and meaningful, and the feedback shared will help guide future discussions and initiatives. Time is valuable, and it means so much that so many took the time to be part of this. Looking forward to keeping these conversations going and working together to make a real difference!

Conversations with the Chesterfield Delegation

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Brightpoint Community College for our Chesterfield Delegation Town Hall. It was an opportunity to share our legislative and budgetary priorities and outcomes from the 2025 General Assembly Session.

It was invaluable being able to hear directly from constituents about their issues of importance and areas of concern.

Let’s connect and talk about the issues that matter to you

Mobile Office Hours are back! This summer, I’ll be holding mobile office hours to connect with constituents and offer support for any state-related matters. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet one-on-one, ask questions, and get assistance with navigating government services, programs, and resources.

Please note, since Laprade Library is closed for renovations, the office hours will be held at Beulah Recreation Center for the rest of the year. No need for an appointment—just stop by during the scheduled times. I look forward to seeing you there!

Get Paid, Gain Experience, Build Your Future!

The Career Pathways to Success program offers an incredible opportunity for high school juniors and seniors in Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover Counties (participants must be at least 16 years old). The program is designed to empower youth by helping them gain valuable skills, explore career opportunities, and earn while they learn.

Participants in Career Pathways to Success will benefit from a paid learning experience, allowing them to explore different career options while gaining valuable skills. The program also provides tools for workforce readiness, including resume building and interview preparation. Teens will engage in hands-on learning experiences that are tailored to their interests and future goals.

By participating, teens contribute to building a stronger, more skilled local workforce. The program also offers academic support, working alongside youth and their families to enhance academic performance through targeted tutoring and learning strategies.

 Essential Government Services

We’re excited to announce the launch of the Federal Workers Resource Hub, designed to offer essential support for federal employees during these challenging times. We know that the changes happening right now are staggering and overwhelming, and this resource provides everything from unemployment benefits and job search help to important information about your rights as a federal employee. It includes details on UCFE, a helpful YouTube video, and access to the Virginia Employment Commission for former federal employees.

You’ll also find local job opportunities through the Chesterfield Employment Center and the “Virginia Has Jobs” initiative, as well as guidance on protecting your career. Plus, the hub connects you with healthcare, financial, mental health, and housing resources.

This resource is here to help ease some of the stress federal employees are facing, and we’re doing what we can to provide support during these difficult times.

Federal Resource Hub

Wishing you all a peaceful, joyful, and meaningful week ahead. Thank you for everything you do to make our community stronger!
