As a dedicated member of the House of Delegates Health and Human Services Committee, Debra Gardner is consistently involved in initiatives that address the healthcare needs of Virginians. Recently, she participated in two critical events: the Health and Human Services Medicaid Bootcamp and a dinner hosted by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA). These events provided an opportunity to discuss key issues in healthcare policy, workforce development, and Medicaid services.

Health and Human Services Medicaid Bootcamp

On August 19-20, Debra Gardner attended the Health Care Policy Bootcamp, organized by the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS). This two-day event was designed to equip legislators and staff with essential insights into the workings of Medicaid, behavioral health, disability services, and the insurance market workforce. The Bootcamp was an informative platform that allowed policymakers like Debra to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Medicaid system in Virginia.

Debra expressed her gratitude to Chairman Delegate Mark Sickles for his coordination of the event and extended her appreciation to the experts who presented thoughtful and comprehensive sessions. "The Medicaid Bootcamp was a crucial opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare needs of our communities. The insights from these discussions will help us better serve the people of Virginia," Debra said.

VHHA Healthcare Association Dinner

Following the first day of the Medicaid Bootcamp, Debra Gardner joined healthcare professionals and fellow legislators at a dinner hosted by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA). The dinner provided a more intimate setting to continue the important conversations initiated during the Bootcamp. Attendees discussed the future of healthcare policy in Virginia, with a focus on improving access to care, addressing workforce challenges, and enhancing patient outcomes.

"The VHHA dinner was an excellent opportunity to further discuss healthcare policy and strengthen partnerships with healthcare professionals across the state," said Debra. "These conversations are vital to ensuring that Virginia continues to lead in healthcare innovation and patient care."

Debra Gardner’s active participation in both the Health and Human Services Medicaid Bootcamp and the VHHA dinner highlights her unwavering commitment to healthcare advocacy.
